What is a Transient Student?
A transient student is enrolled at another college or university and plans to take courses at Columbus State University for a limited time. Transient students may enroll for any term and can take CSU classes while remaining enrolled at their home institution or attend CSU for a full semester. This option gives you flexibility to stay on track, explore new opportunities, or earn credits closer to home.
Institutional Requirements
- An approved transient permission form.
Program-Specific Requirements
View the full breakdown of required courses and prerequisites for your desired program by checking the CSU Academic Catalog.
*Transient admission does not guarantee course availability. You may be required to submit a transcript from your home institution to show you meet the prerequisites for the courses you wish at take at CSU.

Financial Aid For Transient Students
You may be eligible to receive financial aid through your home institution. Begin by contacting your college or university to ask how financial aid works when taking classes at another institution. In most cases, your home institution will submit a Consortium Agreement to CSU. If approved, your financial aid will be paid by your home institution for the courses you are approved to take at CSU.
To receive HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship funds, request that your home institution send an eligibility certificate to CSU through SURFER. After making the request, email sfs@columbusstate.edu to notify Student Financial Services.
